how not to kill your gorgeous new flowers

we’re in the business of brightening days with brilliant flowers, and we’re not fond of watching them wither before their time. here are a few tips and tricks to help those flowers live long and prosper.

TIPS & TRICKs for fresh flowers

just like you after a hard day, your flowers need a drink too (vodka anyone?) keep the water at the top of the vase and change it every two days.

a penny a day keeps the fungus away. pretty sure the old wives’ tale went something like that. the goal is to minimize the growth of bacteria in the water. achieve that by dropping a penny in the bottom of the vase, dissolving an aspirin, or adding one tablespoon of sugar and one tablespoon of vinegar/lemon juice/or vodka to purify the water in your container (see, we weren’t kidding about that stiff drink.)

stay cool! the mantra written hundreds of times in your 7th grade yearbook totally applies to flowers. for longer-lasting flowers keep them in a cool place, out of direct sunlight or heat.

how not to kill your gorgeous new plant

we’re in the business of brightening days with brilliant living plants, and we’re not fond of watching them wither before their time. here are a few tips and tricks to help those house plants live long and prosper.

TIPS & TRICKS FOR PLANTS

just like you after a hard day, your plant needs a drink too (preferably not a stiff one.) keep the plant’s soil moist to dry. allow your plants time to dry out before waterings.

when watering, move your plant to a sink and give it a good soaking. allow excess water to run out through the bottom of the pot into the sink. do not water too frequently however, leaving the soil constantly soggy will do more harm than good.

elton john said it best when he belted, “don’t let the sun go down on me.” keep your plant near natural light. your plant does not require full direct sunlight. think of your arm in the window while driving. plants burn as quickly as you do.

pamper your plant. to make your plant shine like the top of the chrysler building, occasionally wipe the leaves with a soft, damp cloth. rotate them. water them according to seasons. you know how you treat yo’ self at the spa… do that for your plant babes too.
